Oregon Senator Ron Wyden sits on the Intel Committee and recently responded to someone chastising him for not doing more to control US Intel. His angry response? I have enough trouble keeping my security clearance. Apparently, the Intelligence peeps have that leverage to control the questions senators ask as well as their responses, not to mention what they choose to do about what they hear. Almost as good as having blanket liability for government financed experimental chemical killshots that have a 1000-2000% return on investment (Gates).
The Leahy Law prohibits the U.S. military from providing training and equipment to foreign security forces that commit human rights abuses, but it does not apply to U.S. intelligence agencies. Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy said it should.
