What’s been happening has already been way over the top…
Now, dissent itself — and its dissenters — are being declared the enemy. The enemy of what? One can only intuit that these outspoken dissenters — those who dare to question what is going on — are to be considered enemies of the “official narrative” itself.
So whatever becomes official policy is to be treated as undisputable fact?
If so, then Truth has become an enemy — the enemy, really– and the powers-that-be are officially discussing using all the ill-begotten powers mustered in the post-9/11 “PATRIOT Act” era.
Now an official Homeland Security memo has linked disinformation and conspiracy theories to terrorism — strong words, sad words:
The United States remains in a heightened threat environment fueled by several factors, including an online environment filled with false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories, and other forms of mis- dis- and mal-information (MDM) introduced and/or amplified by foreign and domestic threat actors. These threat actors seek to exacerbate societal friction to sow discord and undermine public trust in government institutions to encourage unrest, which could potentially inspire acts of violence. Mass casualty attacks and other acts of targeted violence conducted by lone offenders and small groups acting in furtherance of ideological beliefs and/or personal grievances pose an ongoing threat to the nation. While the conditions underlying the heightened threat landscape have not significantly changed over the last year, the convergence of the following factors has increased the volatility, unpredictability, and complexity of the threat environment: (1) the proliferation of false or misleading narratives, which sow discord or undermine public trust in U.S. government institutions; (2) continued calls for violence directed at U.S. critical infrastructure; soft targets and mass gatherings; faith-based institutions, such as churches, synagogues, and mosques; institutions of higher education; racial and religious minorities; government facilities and personnel, including law enforcement and the military; the media; and perceived ideological opponents; and (3) calls by foreign terrorist organizations for attacks on the United States based on recent events.

That’s a terribly slippery slope which has already slipped, and approached a terminal drop-off.
This is nothing short than a total abuse of power, and a complete about-face to what the government is mandated to do; what it is required by the constitution to respect and not infringe upon– namely, to protect dissenters, and tolerate free speech to all its extremes.
The First Amendment is extremely important; perhaps the very cornerstone of the American experiment.
As George Orwell wrote in the preface to Animal Farm, but which was not published until 1972:
“But at least let us have no more nonsense about defending liberty against Fascism. If liberty means anything at all it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear. The common people still vaguely subscribe to that doctrine and act on it.”

How exactly is this constitutional?

Trust is supposed to be earned, not militarily enforced.

It isn’t hard to make a pretty long list of things that would’ve officially been labeled “misinformation” if stated at the time they occurred, but that were later admitted to be true.
