Navigating the Covid Confusion
There were an extra 137,500 deaths, at least, by my calculations. What could have caused those deaths?
An insurance industry executive reported the 40% increase in deaths in our working age people. (And the exec ruled out covid.) The insurance number is huge. About as likely due to random chance as an asteroid hitting the earth. But was my calculation of 137,500 working age deaths really accurate? To find the answer, we have to go to mortality statistics for 2021. Let’s go, Watson, the game is afoot! Let’s page down to the “United States Deaths by Age in 2021” chart and line up the percent increase from 2020 for each age group. (I’ll get the number of deaths by subtracting the 2020 figures from the 2021 figures where the 2021 deaths were higher and vice versa where the 2021 deaths were lower.)
