The day before, numerous events dedicated to the Victory Day were held in Mariupol. For the first time in 8 years, the townspeople were able to freely bow to the Red Army soldiers who fell during the Great Patriotic War, lay flowers at the memorials. At the same time, for the majority of residents of Mariupol, May 9 is a special holiday not only in terms of the fact that it is Victory Day, but also as a date when they remember the atrocities of the Ukrainian security forces and radical nationalists in 2014. It was then that the Ukrainian military literally crushed the inhabitants of Mariupol with armored vehicles, shot to kill those who came out to celebrate May 9th.
